Missions & City Involvement

Touching His World!

 Matt. 28:19,20
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Acts 1:8
......“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.

Vision

Our vision is to promote mission work Locally, Nationally and Internationally.

We attempt to be specific in channeling money and service into our own city and region and well as nationally and around the world.

This includes funding of ministries and sending people from our congregation on both long term and short-term missions efforts to serve as well as evangelize where it is clear that God is directing us to work.

Leadership Structure

Our 'Mission Team' committee coordinates our mission effort. These people meet monthly to pray and discuss mission activity and budgeting processes. At the end of each year, final decisions are made for the next year of activity and funding.

The Mission team also establishes policy, procedures and other guidelines for the operation of the activities related to missions.

The committee through a personal interview process, screens all candidates and decides whether or not support can or should be given. This takes place on an individual basis and as it is needed. People interested in mission support are encouraged to contact the church office so that the missions committee can schedule time to meet with the potential candidate.

Periodically, needed missions committee members are recruited from the members of the congregation to provide new input, vision and a place for people to serve. This ministry is overseen by the general eldership with one elder couple given specific leadership responsibility for its ongoing effectiveness.

Funding

Funding for our Missions ministry is done through special pledge commitments that the congregation gives at the beginning of each year. These pledges are over and above the regular tithe and are used strictly for Mission work. These monies are formulated into one budget that is presented to the membership at the beginning of each year.

The churches general fund also contributes a regular amount each month to provide needed monies. Periodic special offerings and a 'penny pot' offering, received each month that has five Sundays assist in helping with funding needs that arise beyond the budget.

Mission Emphasis is pursued on an ongoing basis with special speakers scheduled to bring reports and vision to the church. Also regular prayer emphasis each month and through out the year is specifically scheduled.

City Involvement

Unity and Strategic partnerships are a priority in our mission effort to our city. An intentional commitment has been made to function and participate as a part of the City Church of Spokane.

We are committed to the idea that no one church or organization can reach the city and county by themselves, thus we attempt to work with the whole body of Christ where ever possible.

A heart for the city and commitment to prayer dominate our effort to engage our community. We actively pray for our city and county political and civic leaders and encourage our people to volunteer as they are able.

A commitment was made to move toward a more active role in the community by adopting a servants' attitude toward the people of our city. This means to first pray for and then care for and serve them where ever possible and then of course share the gospel in our neighborhoods and workplaces whenever the opening presents itself.
